WASHINGTON, D.C. – Pitching in his seventh Major League season, Alex Wood has avoided home runs throughout most of his career.
Making his fourth start with the Reds, it’s been an area where he’s struggled. Wood surrendered solo home runs to Juan Soto and Brian Dozier in the fourth inning, both in two-strike counts. It was the first time he allowed two homers in an inning since Sept. 26, 2017, a stretch of 36 appearances and 30 starts.
Wood didn’t have much room for error with the way Washington Nationals starter Joe Ross kept the ball on the ground against a hot-hitting Reds lineup in a 3-1 loss at Nationals.
