Cincinnati Reds drop spring training opener to Chicago White Sox, Stuart Fairchild homers

GOODYEAR, Arizona – Baseball season finally arrived for the Cincinnati Reds when they lost 7-2 to the Chicago White Sox in their spring training opener Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark in front of 3,620 fans.

Stuart Fairchild crushed a two-run homer to center field in the eighth inning against White Sox reliever Matt Tomshaw.

The White Sox scored two runs in the fifth inning against reliever Lucas Sims and four runs in the ninth. The Reds had a rough defensive frame in the top of the ninth inning, which included two errors by third baseman Jonathan India.

Jesse Winker left Sunday’s game after he was hit by a pitch on his left wrist in the first inning.
