Cincinnati Reds down Chicago Cubs 6-3 behind Joey Votto’s 4-hit night

Joey Votto has been on quite the roll of late. Well, not even really of late, since you can go all the way back to May 6th and see that he entered play on Friday evening with an .817 OPS over those 40 games played. Elite? Not necessarily, but that’s just the tip of the Vottoberg.

Push things forward a bit, and the numbers get much better.

Since May 16th: .866 OPS in 32 games.

Since May 25th: .943 OPS in 25 games.

Anyhoo, Votto went full Votto against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, too, going 4 for 4 with a walk, 2 runs scored, a ribbie, and a stolen base for good measure, continuing to show that even if he isn’t ever going to be peak Votto again, he’s still a hitting maestro with the ability to adapt and adjust to the way he’s being pitched, a player capable of getting hot for the bulk of a season and putting up monster numbers.
