Cincinnati Reds cut Kevin Quackenbush, activate Shackelford; could a Senzel move be coming?

The Reds shook up the roster a bit Tuesday. Out is right-hander Kevin Quackenbush. He was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for right-hander Kevin Shackelford.

But it could be a prelude to a bigger move. The 40-man roster is at 39, so there’s an opening if the Reds want to get top prospect Nick Senzel on the roster.

Quackenbush, 29, made the team out of spring training as a non-roste invitee. He appeared in 10 games and had an 11.00 ERA. He allowed six runs in the final game in St. Louis.

Shackelford, 28, has been on the disabled with a right forearm strain.
