Cincinnati Reds call up hot-hitting Josh VanMeter from Triple-A, option Cody Reed

Josh VanMeter discusses his breakout start to his Triple-A season. He was called up to the Majors on Sunday. Bobby Nightengale, Cincinnati Enquirer

Josh VanMeter wasn’t on the Reds’ top prospects lists, didn’t earn an invitation to big-league camp in spring training and wasn’t on the 40-man roster until Sunday morning.

With the way VanMeter was hitting at Triple-A Louisville, he certainly made people notice him. He hit .336 with 13 home runs and 31 RBI in 30 games. He led the International League in runs (27), homers, RBI, slugging percentage (.736).

The Reds felt like they needed VanMeter’s bat off their bench and called him up to the Majors on Sunday, replacing lefty reliever Cody Reed on the 25-man roster.
