Cancellation of spring training leaves Reds' Goodyear complex looking like a ghost town

GOODYEAR, Arizona – Monday was a day that the Cincinnati Reds' complex would be buzzing. Eleven days from Opening Day. Roster spots on the line. The ramp-up toward the regulars playing nine innings would be in full force.

Instead, in the wake of the novel coronavirus and the cancellation of the remainder of spring training announced Thursday, the complex was pretty much abandoned. Some of the grounds crew personnel kept the fields ready.

But no one players were working out.

“Some of the minor leaguers came in (Sunday) to get fed,” a security guard said. “But everyone is staying away.
