GOODYEAR, Arizona – Lucas Sims was grateful to be standing on a big-league mound, but there were a few times during the 2018 season when he knew he was headed to Triple-A immediately following the game.
It’s a tough spot knowing no matter how well you pitch, it’s not good enough.
“It got to the point after one or two options up and down, you know as soon as you go out there for that second and third inning, you’re like, ‘All right, I’m gone,’ ” Sims said. “It’s not a fun place to be.”
That’s what made Sims thankful for the chance to pitch out of the Reds’ bullpen in the second half of the 2019 season.
