Batting with the bases loaded and a three-run deficit in the seventh inning Sunday, Eugenio Suárez blooped a ball down the right-field line that dropped a few feet foul. St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher John Gant was pointing that it was foul when it left Suárez’s bat, trying to will the ball to safety.

On the next pitch, Suárez hit a low line drive to shortstop Paul DeJong, who fielded the ball on a hop and turned it into an inning-ending double play. Suárez spiked his helmet into the grass.

Suárez had a chance for redemption in the ninth inning after Tucker Barnhart hit a two-run single into right field.
