Al Michaels, former Reds play-by-play broadcaster, among eight 2021 Frick Award finalists

Former Cincinnati Reds play-by-play broadcaster Al Michaels is one of eight finalists for the 2021 Ford C. Frick Award, per an announcement Monday from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Michaels came to Cincinnati in 1971 and was replaced in the Reds' broadcast booth in 1974 by Marty Brennaman.

Michaels is looking to become the second former Reds play-by-play broadcaster in three years to win the award. Al Helfer, who did play-by-play for the Reds from 1935 to 1937, won the 2019 Frick Award.

Michaels sent a tribute to Brennaman in Sept.
