How, and why, a former Cincinnati Bengals running back turned into a beekeeper

WALTON – It started with a sweet tooth.

Eric Ball used to chew on honeycombs as treat from his grandmother, and like most people, enjoys a bit of honey on his biscuits.

An avid outdoorsman, the Cincinnati Bengals’ director of player relations spent a fourth of July holiday weekend at a friend’s farm five summers ago and noticed several beehives. It piqued it his interest. Over the next year, he read Beekeeping for dummies, watched YouTube videos and volunteered at Gorman Heritage Farm to learn how to do it.
