Bengals signing Darrin Simmons to contract extension, per report

The Cincinnati Bengals have locked down one of their top assistants.

The team is giving a contract extension to special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons, according to Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Simmons has been with the Bengals since 2003, and he’s routinely built some of the NFL’s top special teams units while producing several Pro Bowl selections. His unit was one of the lone bright spots in a lost 2019 season, highlighted by the emergence of Brandon Wilson, who became one of the NFL’s top kickoff returners.

Simmons’ contract was set to expire, and there was speculation the New England Patriots may come calling after they lost special teams coordinator Joe Judge, who is now the head coach of the New York Giants.
