Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard are the Cincinnati Bengals’ main two running backs, but the team has an intriguing battle behind them.
Samaje Perine, Trayveon Williams and Jacques Patrick are all competing for spots on the 53-man roster. The Bengals opened Week 1 last year with four running backs on their roster. If the club adopts the same approach this season, one of the three backup RBs will be out of a job.
The three running backs had been the beneficiaries of Mixon’s absence from practice last week while he battled through migraines in addition to contract negotiations.
