Bengals News: OLB Vontaze Burfict, Bengals agree to four-year contract extension

In this Bengals news and rumors update, the Cincinnati Bengals have signed outside linebacker Vontaze Burfict to a four-year contract extension worth $20 million, per Adam Schefter and Adam Caplan of ESPN.

According to ESPN.com news services, the new extension will pay Burfict $7.6 million for the 2014 season.

Burfict missed Wednesday's practice with what defensive coordinator Paul Guenther termed as a "stomach bug." Per ESPN NFL Nation reporter Coley Harvey, it was a "matter of coincidence" that Burfict was ill on Wednesday.

As the physical and emotional leader of a rejuvenated Cincinnati Bengals defense, Burfict was due a contract extension heading into the last year of his rookie deal. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State, Burfict will receive a just over $7 million raise over the $570,000 he was slated to make this season.

In his Pro Bowl 2013 season, Burfict led the league in tackles with 171.
