UC's temporary move to online learning due to COVID-19 surge won't affect athletics

The University of Cincinnati is transitioning to online classes at the the beginning of the spring semester, but the move will not affect the university's athletic teams.

University officials said in an email to the campus community Tuesday that the university will move operations online starting Wednesday and return to full in-person classes Jan. 24 due to the high transmission rate of the omicron variant and subsequent rise in COVID-19 cases in the region. Spring semester classes are scheduled to begin Monday.

In a statement to The Enquirer on Tuesday, UC Director of Athletics John Cunningham said, "Events are expected to go on as currently scheduled and teams will continue to be allowed to practice, meet and workout.
