The University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team is joining the list of sports teams that are canceling practice or postponing games to focus on the issues of racial inequality and social injustice.
Cincinnati is canceling Friday's scheduled practice and instead will hold a team meeting at 1:30 p.m., sources told The Enquirer.
The team's decision comes as players in the NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLB, tennis and other leagues have halted play in an effort to illuminate racial injustice after police shot Jacob Blake, a Black man, seven times in the back Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Several members of the UC football team and its staff took to social media earlier this summer to show unity and solidarity as protests popped up around the country after the May 25 death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.
