The University of Cincinnati announced Thursday that 14 full-time positions were eliminated from its athletics department, including seven roles which were currently filled, in "cost-cutting measures" as the department continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The other seven positions were open and will not be filled.
The position cuts represent a 15% reduction in the athletics staff and will go into effect immediately, according to the department.
"We had to make a number of difficult decisions today based on the financial situation we are in," UC Director of Athletics John Cunningham said. "While the cuts are a business reality, it doesn't lessen the impact on us personally.
