When Steve Ellis was hired as the new men’s basketball head coach at UC Clermont in March, he inherited a roster of three players.
The 2015-16 Cougars squad finished the season with just six players, and only three remained following the spring semester. That put the new coaching staff behind the proverbial eight ball. Two abbreviated recruiting cycles later, the Cougars appear to have built the foundation for the program’s future.
“We basically had to start from scratch. It’s been a pleasant surprise and we feel pretty fortunate about the guys we’ve picked up,” said Ellis. “One of the things we’ve wanted to do is to change the culture both on and off the court.
