It was not the game-long beatdown that some expected, but the No. 12 University of Cincinnati nonetheless overwhelmed Savannah State 107-77 in the season basketball opener Friday afternoon.
Junior guard Jacob Evans led UC with 19 points, and fellow junior guard Cane Broome scored 17. Another junior guard, Justin Jenifer, came off the bench for a career-best 15 points.
Senior guard Gary Clark had 13 points and 11 rebounds for UC. Clark's first basket of the game also gave him 1,000 career points. Sophomore guard Jarron Cumberland and freshman guard Keith Williams each scored 10 points for UC.
