University of Cincinnati sophomore cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner told The Enquirer before the season that the wide receiver he was most looking forward to facing in 2020 is University of Memphis two-time second-team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) performer Damonte Coxie.
"Memphis, No. 10," Gardner said. "I respect him. But it's over this year."
Gardner won't get that opportunity to line up across from Coxie when the No. 7 (both Associated Press and Coaches polls) Bearcats (4-0, 2-0 AAC) host the Tigers on Saturday (noon on ESPN).
Coxie left the team earlier this month, electing to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
