GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – Mick Cronin wanted a test, and the University of Cincinnati basketball coach certainly got that for his team here Monday night.
The No. 12-ranked Bearcats held off Buffalo 73-67 in the Cayman Islands Classic at John Gray Gymnasium, which seats about 2,000 and had probably less than half that in attendance.
UC (4-0) was led by forward Gary Clark with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Kyle Washington had 14 points and guard Jarron Cumberland had 13 points for UC.
After crushing Savannah State, Western Carolina and Coppin State by an average score of 102-61 to open the year, the Bearcats faced a Buffalo team picked to win the Mid-American Conference East Division.
