Anthony Buford was in prison when his mother died, and he couldn't get out for the funeral.
That was the worst of the worst of it for the former University of Cincinnati basketball star who is still trying to rebuild his shattered life since being released from jail.
Cincinnati sports fans know some but not nearly all of what happened to Buford, now 48 years old. Buford etched himself into local lore as a senior shooting guard for the 1991-92 Bearcats, the second-leading scorer (15.3 points per game) on what remains UC's last NCAA Final Four team.
