Butch Jones, the former Cincinnati Bearcats and Tennessee Volunteers head coach who has served most recently as a special assistant to head coach Nick Saban for the Alabama Crimson Tide, was named Saturday night as the new head coach of the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
Jones coached UC to a 23-14 record from 2010 to 2012 before leaving for the Vols. Jones was 34-27 at Tennessee from 2013-17.
Arkansas State finished its 2020 season with a 4-7 record.
Jones remained at Alabama in 2019 despite reports that he was accepting a position on the Maryland Terrapins' football staff after Maryland hired Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley as its head coach.
