Former UC Bearcat tight end adds football head coach title to Purcell Marian AD duties

EAST WALNUT HILLS - A year after becoming Purcell Marian's full-time athletic director, former University of Cincinnati tight end D.J. Dowdy will add another responsibility.

The 2016 UC grad will become the school's first African-American head football coach, replacing Dave Wirth, who stepped down in November to evaluate other coaching options. Purcell Marian High School principal/CEO Andy Farfsing made the announcement Wednesday.

"During the hiring process, it became crystal clear to everyone involved that the right candidate was already in the building," Farfsing said. "He's proven himself a tremendous leader during his time as AD. I'm thrilled for him to guide our football program.
