Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder trying to 'stay leavel-headed' ahead of season-opener

If there is still a battle for the starting quarterback spot ahead of the Cincinnati Bearcats' season-opener against Austin Peay, Desmond Ridder isn't acting like it.

The incumbent starter is going about his business every day expecting to start. He's done so since the Bearcats capped last season with a 38-6 win over Boston College in the Birmingham Bowl.

"I plan to be starting," the 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior told The Enquirer on Wednesday. "There's nothing else to it."

Ridder ran for 105 yards and three touchdowns and added a score through the air in the lopsided victory over the Eagles after missing the regular-season finale with a sore throwing shoulder.
