Instead, UC football's 27-24 upset of No. 18 UCF Friday night at sold-out Nippert Stadium was in the image of program leader, high school wrestling legend, former college defensive lineman Luke Fickell.
This was tough guts, hammer-down aggression and dogged faith in each other and the plan. Nothing proved Fickell's vision more than a fourth-and-inches call near the 50-year line with a minute to go.
"Let's end this thing," Fickell said. "Let's do it our way, our style.
