The No. 12-ranked University of Cincinnati has slaughtered its first two basketball opponents this season, and figured to crush another such team in Coppin State on Thursday night at Northern Kentucky University.
It happens every year in college basketball, where ranked teams fatten up on lesser opponents in the pre-conference schedule. A predictable exercise, perhaps, but just what is the point?
"You just never know when you schedule these games," UC coach Mick Cronin said. "Teams lose guys. So many kids transfer out of mid-major programs now, that you just never know what you’re gonna get when it actually comes to fruition and it’s game night.
