ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – Cincinnati basketball had a 23 percent win probability, per Kenpom.com, when it trailed 59-49 with 7:33 to play Friday against Illinois State.

The Bearcats avoided a Paradise Jam upset by closing the game on a 17-6 run, paced by Jarron Cumberland's seven points and game-winning lay-up. On the Bearcats' go-ahead possession with the clock running down, the plan didn't work and the play fell apart.

Their best player had to make something happen.

"Chris McNeal just didn't run it correctly," said Bearcats' coach John Brannen after the 66-65 victory.
