If more than four teams could qualify for the College Football Playoff, then Friday’s game between No. 8 Cincinnati and No. 9 Georgia would have even more at stake.
Instead of playing for a Peach Bowl trophy, the two teams could be playing for a Final Four berth.
On Thursday, Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell and Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart both endorsed an expanded playoff that would feature 8, 12 or 16 teams.
“We need to give a team like Cincinnati an opportunity to be in the Playoffs, (and that’s) the only way we're going to do that,” Fickell said.
