Analysis: Cincinnati Bearcats withstand Memphis surge, pull away for victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - There was trouble all around. An 11-game winning streak was in some jeopardy.

The most valuable University of Cincinnati basketball player got hurt, then returned. There were serious foul issues. There was Memphis cutting a 19-point UC lead to just four points, with the home folks getting louder and louder.

In the end, No. 9-ranked UC (19-2, 8-0 American Athletic Conference) withstood a second-half Tigers surge and won 62-48 here Saturday night, before an announced crowd of 12,223 at FedEx Forum.

"Obviously a hard-fought game," UC coach Mick Cronin said. "We got control early.
