The Cincinnati Bearcats celebrated the 25th anniversary of the school’s last Final Four men’s basketball team Saturday, then played like the 1992 team in a dominant 82-68 win over longtime nemesis Connecticut.
In fact, UC coach Mick Cronin sounded much like 1992 UC coach Bob Huggins in the former’s postgame press conference Saturday. The No. 14 Bearcats (21-2, 10-0 American Athletic Conference) led by as much as 26 points, but Cronin was not especially happy. It was reminiscent of the younger Huggins, who drove his players relentlessly even when they won.
Cronin did praise junior forward Kyle Washington (career high 27 points, eight rebounds) and junior forward Gary Clark (20 points, 11 rebounds).
