AAC eliminates intraconference transfer policy of sitting out year

The American Athletic Conference eliminated its intraconference transfer policy - effective immediately - for student athletes, according to a release Tuesday, allowing players to transfer between AAC schools without sitting out a year.

The ACC and MAC recently have announced similar policies.

"This is an important decision that is in the best interests of our student-athletes," American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco said in a statement. "It will align the conference’s position on transfers with the expected significant change to the NCAA policy. ... Any student-athletes who had transferred within the conference after Aug. 1, 2020, will not have to complete the academic year in residence, and the year of eligibility charged under the policy will be reinstated.
