Yasmani Grandal exits the Chicago White Sox game vs. the Minnesota Twins with a strained left calf

Batting right-handed against reliever Caleb Thielbar, Grandal checked his swing on an 0-2 pitch, hobbled and fell to the ground. He received attention from the training staff and had to be helped off the field.

Grandal left Friday’s game against the Detroit Tigers in the fifth inning with left calf tightness and did not play Saturday or Sunday at Comerica Park. Sox manager Tony La Russa thought about having Grandal hit for Brian Goodwin in the ninth inning Sunday before deciding to stick with the outfielder.

Grandal went 0-for-2 with a walk Monday. He struck out in the second and walked in the fourth.
