Win or lose, José Abreu embraces the game-turning moments for the Chicago White Sox: ‘My mindset in those at-bats is easy: Just try to produce’

CLEVELAND — José Abreu took a called strike to begin an eighth-inning at-bat against Cleveland Indians reliever James Karinchak during Game 1 of a doubleheader Monday at Progressive Field.

The Chicago White Sox first baseman swung and missed to fall behind 0-2 and fouled off the next pitch. Abreu took the next three pitches for balls to run the count full.

He fouled off the seventh pitch, then hit a sinking liner to left field that a sliding Harold Ramírez caught. Billy Hamilton scored on the sacrifice fly, breaking a 5-all tie in a game the Sox would win 8-6.
