Why was Eloy Jimenez in the outfield for that weird ground-rule double when the White Sox traded for Jarrod Dyson, a defensive specialist?

Byron Buxton raced around the bases after Chicago White Sox left fielder Eloy Jimenez couldn’t catch the Twins center fielder’s liner to left in the ninth inning Monday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Jimenez put his hands up when he saw the ball was under the padding. He eventually picked up the ball and fired it to the infield, but the relay was late as Buxton was initially credited with an inside-the-park home run. After a short review though, it was changed to a ground-rule double.

Sox reliever Alex Colome shook off the sequence and struck out Jake Cave to wrap up a thrilling 3-1 win.
