White Sox sign Scott Hairston to minor league deal

CHICAGO -- Free-agent outfielder Scott Hairston, who has not played in the major leagues since 2014, was signed to a minor-league contract Wednesday by the Chicago White Sox.

Hairston, 35, batted .208 over 61 games with the Washington Nationals in 2014, with a .254 on-base percentage. He is a career .242 hitter with a .296 OBP over 11 major league seasons with the Nationals, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics.
