Don Cooper always has had rave reviews for ace left-hander Chris Sale, but the White Sox pitching coach is feeling "real good" about Sale's first month of the season.
Sale enters his start Sunday against the Orioles with a 5-0 record and a 1.66 ERA, the best April numbers of his career. Helping that start has been a new approach that puts less focus on strikeouts and more on trying for early ground balls from hitters.
Cooper and Sale had a conversation about it in late November, with the idea that it would help Sale be more efficient and pitcher deeper in games.
