White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper called James Shields’ rapid decline over his last four starts “weird,” but he said Sunday he will continue to work with the right-hander on mechanical adjustments to try to right his season.
Shields gave up eight earned runs over 1 2/3 innings against the Indians on Saturday night. After starting the season with a 3.06 ERA over his first 10 starts, he posted a 24.62 ERA over his next four starts. One of those starts was with the Padres and three have been with the Sox since he was traded June 4.
