White Sox make it official: Yoan Moncada staying on the South Side for the next half decade

It's official: Yoan Moncada isn't going anywhere.

The White Sox announced Friday what was widely reported a day earlier, a five-year extension for their third baseman with an option for a sixth that could keep Moncada on the South Side through the 2025 season. The deal is worth $70 million over the next five seasons, with that club option for 2025 worth an additional $25 million.

It's the latest move in an offseason of huge moves that never seems to end for Rick Hahn's front office. All told, with free-agent deals for Yasmani Grandal, Dallas Keuchel, Edwin Encarnacion, Gio Gonzalez and Steve Cishek and extensions for Jose Abreu, Luis Robert, Aaron Bummer and now Moncada, the White Sox have spent more than $335 million in guaranteed money.
