DETROIT -- Jose Abreu’s hope for a strong finish to 2015 started well as he was named the co-American League player of the week on Monday.
Abreu hit .458/.552/.791 with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs to win the award for the second time this season (July 27-Aug. 2) and third of his career.

Texas slugger Prince Fielder shared the honors with Abreu, who is vying to become only the second player in baseball history to begin his career with consecutive 30-homer, 100-RBI seasons along with Albert Pujols.
