White Sox expect Melky Cabrera to go on paternity leave Friday

Melky Cabrera said he wanted to dedicate Thursday’s White Sox game against the Indians to his soon-to-arrive baby daughter.

Cabrera will leave the Sox to see the birth of his daughter Friday and is expected to miss the weekend series against the Twins in Minneapolis. He is expected to return for the Yankees series in New York on Monday.

Cabrera has three other children ages 4, 6 and 7, but this will be the first time he is present for the birth. He has never taken paternity leave before.

“I am a little nervous right now because this is going to be the first time I’m going to be there watching the whole process,” Cabrera said through a team interpreter.
