White Sox catcher Geovany Soto lands back on the disabled list with elbow issues

The White Sox placed catcher Geovany Soto on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a recurrence of right elbow inflammation.

The Sox called up catcher Kevan Smith from Triple-A Charlotte to take his place before Wednesday’s game against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Soto, 34, was on the disabled list from April 12-22 with right elbow inflammation and said that while there was no structural damage, an MRI did find “floaters” in his arm. He said in late April that the issue can cause a lot of pain.

“Hopefully I can withstand it,” he said then.
