The White Sox are bringing back catcher Geovany Soto on a minor-league deal, a major-league source confirmed Friday.
Soto, who will turn 34 this month, is a 12-year major-league veteran who played parts of eight seasons with the Cubs and the 2015 season with the Sox.
He will have a chance to make the Sox major-league roster during spring training to fill a position of need for the club as it continues its rebuild.
Soto could provide a veteran presence next to Omar Narvaez, who made his debut during the 2016 season, as the Sox continue to develop their other young catchers, including first-round draft pick Zack Collins, at the minor-league level.
