Bill Veeck began his second round of ownership of the White Sox in underwhelming fashion, as Spring Training opened in Sarasota with just non-roster players due to an ongoing owners’ lockout.

The White Sox opened up their current spring training home, Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz., with a 3-2 win over the Dodgers. Mark Buerhle (two Ks, one walk, one hit) started the game, throwing two shutout innings that were matched by L.A. starter Hiroki Kuroda. Chicago rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to take the lead, 3-2, kick-started by Gordon Beckham’s pinch-hit home run.
