Heading into the 2018 season, there was nothing more important for the White Sox long-term future than Yoan Moncada's continued development. Then the 2018 season happened, Moncada struck out 217 times, and fans weren't too happy about that.
The truth is that growing pains are not unexpected, not even for a guy who at one point was rated as the top prospect in the game. But Moncada's 2018 was not good in many facets. The strikeouts — the fourth highest single-season total in the history of the game — were glaring. So, too, were the way they came, often looking, with Moncada trying to continue the knack for drawing walks he entered the big leagues with in 2017.
