#TBT: Mark Buehrle recalls his perfect game 10 years ago

“MERCY!”

The staple exclamation from White Sox play-by-play announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, this time following a robbed home run from centerfielder Dewayne Wise for the 25th out of the game on July 23, 2009 in Chicago.

Wise had entered the game moments before in center field, replacing Carlos Quentin in the lineup as Scott Podsednik shifted from center to left for the final three outs.

The ‘mercy’ was followed by a “YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! … HISTORY!” from Harrelson two outs later, when the heroics of Wise and 27-straight retired Tampa Bay Rays cemented Mark Buehrle in franchise history as the first White Sox pitcher to throw a perfect game.
