Look out, White Sox. It appears the Padres are serious about signing free-agent infielder Manny Machado.
The Padres have offered Machado an eight-year contract worth at least $240 million, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Jon Heyman, an MLB Network insider, reported that the offer is believed to be for about $250 million.
Padres general manager A.J. Preller visited Harper in Miami last week, and the team’s big-money offer followed. It remains to be seen if Machado wants to play in San Diego.
Meanwhile, Heyman also reported that the Padres have made an offer to free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper as well, though the Phillies still are believed to be the favorite to sign Harper.
