Nick Madrigal is out for the season after the Chicago White Sox second baseman has surgery on his torn hamstring

The Chicago White Sox will be without second baseman Nick Madrigal for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery Tuesday to repair his torn right hamstring, the team announced.

The Sox announced last week that Madrigal would be inactive for at least six weeks as they placed him on the 60-day injured list. At the time they were considering other treatment options in addition to season-ending surgery.

Madrigal, 24, was injured Wednesday while attempting to beat out a grounder in the seventh inning of a 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Guaranteed Rate Field.
