Jose Abreu sidelined for two weeks after having surgery

Jose Abreu will miss at least the next two weeks after having surgery on his lower abdomen/groin area Tuesday.

The White Sox first baseman was scratched from Tuesday's lineup after complaining of discomfort when he arrived at Guaranteed Rate Field before the start of a two-game home set with the visiting Minnesota Twins.

The team announced during Tuesday's game that Abreu underwent successful outpatient surgery done by Dr. Christopher Coogan of RUSH University Medical Center and that he will return to baseball activities in approximately two weeks.

A return to baseball activities, of course, does not mean a return to game action, and the White Sox will likely be without their best hitter for longer than the two-week timeframe.
