José Abreu exits Game 1 of the Chicago White Sox’s doubleheader after colliding with Kansas City Royals batter Hunter Dozier

Chicago White Sox first baseman José Abreu left Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals after colliding with Hunter Dozier while racing in for a popup between home plate and first base.

The collision occurred in the second inning after Hunter hit the popup near home plate and started running to first. Abreu came racing in to try to make a play on the ball and the two collided.

The Sox said Abreu is day-to-day with a facial bruise and lacerationand a bruised left knee. The initial assessment for a concussion was negative.
