Jason Benetti will miss time after the Chicago White Sox TV voice tests positive for COVID-19

Chicago White Sox television play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti will miss an undetermined number of broadcasts after a breakthrough positive test for COVID-19, the team announced in a statement Monday.

Benetti, who is in his sixth season as part of the Sox television broadcast team and third as the full-time play-by-play voice, is recovering at home in Chicago.

Benetti, who was named the 2020 Illinois Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association in January, recently served as announcer for the Olympic baseball semifinals and final for NBC.

Mike Monaco will handle play-by-play duties in Benetti’s absence.
